I took some pictures of my adorable niece Emmalee for her 1st birthday and I'm so excited with how they turned out. I couldn't have had a better subject to photograph. I just love her big eyes and long eyelashes!! My favorite part of the shoot was when, after an hour of taking pictures, my husband tried to come and get her to smile and she rolled her eyes at him!! It was SO funny-that girl has sass-and I LOVE it!!!

Last weekend I had the opportunity to photograph this beautiful family. We used to be in the same ward, and it was really good to see them again. They were so easy to talk to and it just felt like we were hanging out as friends the whole time!

Workshop Photos

First off, I just found this new blog template that allows me to upload my photos to a larger size!! This is so exciting, I think they look how I actually see them on my computer screen now, before when I would upload them through blogger, the color would look all wrong and they would look grainy. I'm really excited, woohoo!
Last weekend, I went to a photography workshop with Marissa Vargason. She's an uber talented photographer and I learned a lot!
Here are some of the photos I took-she invited models to come so that she could help us with the shooting process.

I took some photos of Drew practicing a few days ago, and just got around to uploading them and processing them. I LOVE them!! I love this first photo, I wanted to process it so that it would look like a newspaper article. My dad took a photo of me when I was younger that was featured in an article, and it inspired me to process this photo this particular way. What do you think? I love the grain, the slightly colored black and white. Awesome.

I decided to keep this photo in color. I love the look of concentration on his face. He's singing along while playing. Very cute! That's some pretty awesome "Cello bokeh" too.

My Boy Drew

Tonight Drew and I went to take his "5-year-old" pictures. I know my mom wants them done at Target or JCPenny, but it's just against everything I do! I love that I can take my own photos and process them the way I want. I took about 200 photos and narrowed it down to about 6 really good ones. Strength in numbers. Like Target is going to take 200 pictures. You get like 5 chances! Ha! Well, here are some of my fav's from tonights shoot.

This one is my absolute favorite one of the bunch. Man, my boy is handsome!!

The assignment for this week is lines. So far this is all I've got, usually I take photos of my kids...and they don't have many lines. For this one, I had to get out of my house. It was really fun!! I took this while I was on my bike ride this morning, by the Legacy trail.

Lightening!!

Last Sunday, a NASTY wicked storm came in, with thunder and lightening. It was. awesome. My dad helped me set up my Camera to get some shots of the lightening and this is what we got. I LOVE it. I have to say though, my favorite part is the car lights because of the long exposure. Thanks for helping dad!

Bokeh #1

My mom and I and the boys went to the Gateway today. We shopped, had lunch and watched the waterfalls. That was BY FAR the boys favorite part of our little trip. I really wanted to get some good Bokeh, and spent a lot of time trying to come up with an amazing shot that didn't include my kids. Not that I don't like taking photos of my kids...I just wanted to try something new. So, as I was looking around, I looked down at cam and thought this is perfect.... This is the result....some pretty good Bokeh...I think :)

This week's assignment is B&W. I decided to take my favorite subject (Drew, of course) and shoot some photos in the shade. I love B&W. I love the creamy whites in his skin tones to his black eyelashes. Man, he's a good-looking kid. I wonder where he got it? ;)

Tonight, I headed out on Legacy Highway towards SLC. There is this beautiful pool of water as shown. I know, beautiful....by a highway....wha??? ANYway, I really love the reflection of the poles into the water. I REALLY dream of this shot in the morning light....

I had the opportunity to take pictures of some good friends a couple of nights ago. Melinda was my sister's best friend growing up and their family lived just three houses down from mine. We went on many vacations together. They are an incredible family and I loved taking pictures of them and the love that they all have for each other. This past weekend I had the opportunity to go visit my brother and sister in law and their BEAUTIFUL new little baby girl Emalee. I was also able to take some photos of her-my first newborn photo shoot, and I'm pretty happy with the results. Kirk and Janelle, she's gorgeous, and I'm so SO happy for you guys!

I posted a little about this on my 'photo a day' blog but wanted to talk some more about it over here on my photo blog. Last night my dad gave me some reflectors to help me with an upcoming photo shoot, so I thought I'd use my two fav guinea pigs to help me test them. Cam was COMPLETELY un-cooperative (surprise!!!), but Drew did a great job. He was a little sassy at first, but with a little bribery (I know, mom of the year), he came a around ;) I love this first picture though! I love how the reflector is in the shot. But, as you can see Drew's sweet little face isn't quite lit up like I'd like it to be, so move to shot #2

Here is a great shot of Drew's face lit up instead of the harsh shadow on the side of his face that's away from the window...funny face Drew!

I love this photo, except that if this is the first time ever seeing him, you'd think he was bald. I love his little expressive eyebrows, and great catchlights (right dad!!).

And finally, the final picture, this was the best one of the bunch because I finally had the reflector close enough to him that it actually made a difference.

I've wanted to get into photography for quite a while now and ever since I got my DSLR Camera, I have come a LONG way. I have really enjoyed not just taking pictures, but finding beauty through the lense of my camera.
